Blog of an MSer

By Luis M Mendez

Dear readers: We have thought that since John and Bob, our dear friends in Epistolary of Two MSers conditions aren’t getting any better, we will reduce their participation by every other month.

If you are not familiar with the word “Blog” I would say its meaning’s something like a daily log of our lives in this case, “our MS lives”.

I will try to be as accurate as possible but please take into consideration that no two cases are the same, and at the same time I will be detailing other MSer’s blogs as well.

So this is March 2005

The first five days I have noticed a worsening in my muscles’ aches and pains, specially if I try to stretch the legs or arms, is there a plateau somewhere? Will “this” slow down for a few weeks? months? Oh well, I don’t think so.

Also these first five days have brought some problems with the balance, in the scale of 1 to 10 being 10 the worst I would say mine is scoring a 9!

Keep drinking at least 5 big jars of water a day, usually stop after supper since I don’t want to spend the whole night peeing. And talking about “that” the other day I couldn’t hold it any longer and just had “an episode” blocks before getting home. “An episode” the first time I heard that expression was at a rehab I went for 1 month about 15 years ago, peeing was “an episode or accident”, moving your bowels was “an involuntary” a big, red, foul smelling sore was “developing an area” in other words forcing oneself from calling things by their name.

Remember a guy yelling for the nurse because “..he had to take a dump” he was corrected by the nazi-nurse-in-charge in an stern manner “..Mr. so and so we call that an involuntary” so the guy told her to go “somewhere”, the whole place broke down in laughter! Good moments in otherwise horrible times when we didn’t really know what was going to happen to us…MSers, SCIers, amputees etc.

Went to get up today, I think is the 12th and…. Just couldn’t get up, good thing my wife was home getting ready for work and she was able to lift me, the bad side was that I wasn’t able to go back to bed so here I am falling asleep.

I like these blogs, there are blogs everywhere in cyberspace, blogs for photographers, blogs for runners, blogs for philatelists, a “radio” blog and, of course MSer’s blogs, hey we do have a right to one!

I am getting used to the new “progressive” lenses, hard to do the first day but then is just a pleasure not having to move the neck but only the eyes in order to see the keyboard and monitor.

On the 16th of this month I have started to cut my “PC time” in half, too many hours in front of the monitor and also my back starts to hurt…is there a plateau somewhere near?
