Poem

CONSIDER THE PEAR

By annniem (Deanna Mattox)

Consider the pear

Golden

Touch of green

Gorgeous in form

Yet the uncertainty of what you'll get

The first bite

a harmonious delight of

juice and flesh

sweet and sour

The first bite

A smile

A pause

Disbelief

It didn't look that good

Looks can be so deceiving

I mused

As I slowly savored the pear

thinking it must surely be the perfect fruit

Not a bit of waste

one could nibble

all the way to

the stem

Looks can be so deceiving

I thought

A person in a chair

At first just another gimp

Until you talk to them

The uncertainty of what you'll get

The delight in what you find

A quirky sense of humor

Intelligence

Humanity

Acceptance

Wisdom

Strength

They become like the pear

A perfect fruit...

Something to savor

Not a bit of waste
