We just got a boat load of snow, here in southern PA and I am at a friends' house. We let the dogs out to play in it this morning and this poem came to my head. By Ricochet (Debbie Cox)
What is this strange thing falling from the cold sky? I am confused, as it's moisture lands in my eye. Never before have I experienced such a beast.
I try to bite and taste it, but it's not fit for a feast. It's white, soft, wet, and cold; and melts upon my nose. it's fun to run and play in and doesn't squish between my toes.
Mommie and Daddy play with me and make it into balls; Then throw them at each other and me, laughing when we fall. I'm having fun now, with this new found toy, today, But Daddy says that it will soon all melt away.
Why must it leave? why must it go? It saddens me now; my first falling of new winter snow.
The puppy in the poem is an 8 month old boxer-pit-bull mix. Her name is Star. She enjoyed her first snowfall as much as a little child would. Debbie Lynne aka Ricochet
