I've put a different little survey on Editor's Notes, too. But here are some of my ponderings...... Why are so many of you falling away? I know about MS, believe me, folks. When I started this magazine in 1999, I could walk with a cane. It wasn't pretty but I could do it. But to tell you the truth I soon found a walker on wheels handy for carrying things. I was managing what work at home I could, but the magazine soon became my savior. I loved writing for it, reading what was coming in each month. I was on Avonex, for r/r MS though nobody really knew what I had. Soon switched to Beta Seron for over 6 years. I stopped helping, so did Tysabri for 2 years. At this point out of the blue my neurologist sent me to Indiana's big hot shot MS specialist, I guess so he could inform me I have now become secondary progressive, and nothing can be done for me. I had to talk him into letting me try Novantrone and he reluctantly did. I went back to the Oncologist who had managed my Tysabri. Here I got the first IV infusion of Novantrone. Within a couple of days I couldn't breathe, borrowed oxygen and made the trip back to Evansville. My Oncologist admitted he wasn't sure, but it could be pneumonia so off to the floor in the hospital I went into a sterile environment. After some tests, it was discovered I had blood clots on each lung, and many in a leg. One of the specialists on my case said this kind of clotting was usually an indication of cancer... Oh boy. Off I went to get the lump I thought was caused by an injury biopsed. Oh yes, it was cancer. Off to see a surgeon, more tests. We were just about ready to proceed with chemo before surgery, when same doctor wanted bioposy on my lady parts. Yep, cancer of the uterus. A lot of prayers, and trust worthy doctors got me through. But I have had more blood clots since. I now have an abdominal mesh shield to keep them from moving to my chest. Now......I know how MS has mistreated so many of you, but I still want and need you to set your creative side free. It just may save you. Just think, I am now in an electric wheelchair, arm is going numb, so I am not out of the MonSter's grasp at all. I am nobody to look at and,say why is she doing so well. We have writers here who are now paraplegic, quadraplegic, but now use voice recognition software. This magazine has kept me going...maybe it can do that for you, too.
