By Des (Ruth Scalpone)

Of course your family and

Friends miss you terribly.

Your husband (widower?  Oh no!)

Seems unsure what to do with himself.

Your grandchildren are puzzled

Wondering where you are

The dogs and horses don’t seem to understand

Where you went and why you’re not coming back.

Those of us who are older than the children,

Though apparently not wiser, try to explain

What we don’t understand ourselves.

Where are you so we can tell them something?

The day drags on as tears flow

Non-stop and flood the house.

The day that seemed to last forever

Finally ends, momentarily releasing us

From the severe pain in the house.

The star-lit sky you loved so much

Seems brighter now, as if another

Star is there, and now I know where you are.

As you twinkle and shine, I hope

You’re happy there, and I bet you are.
