Up Facebook Creek Without a Paddle?

By Car (Carolyn Reynolds)

I've been wondering.....where have my writers gone? It seems many of you show up before the end of the month for the next issue, and I thank you, but where are you spending your time between issues? Are you ill because of the MonSter or has something new captured you?

Then I was introduced to Facebook. Well, more like I was dragged kicking and screaming by a friend who loves it, spends lots of hours there. So I accepted her invitation and started my own Facebook not having a clue how it all works. Suddenly there appears this huge list of people for me to invite....what does that mean?

Not wanting to appear rude, I went through the names the first time out and lo and behold who do I find? Well let me tell you, I found many of YOU!  I also found lots and lots of my former students, and that has been fun. I found friends of my daughter, my daughter, her three kids, their friends, their friends' parents and their friends. Do I go on?

In my quest not to be rude I've gotten back two, "Do I know you" comments. How do you answer those? Heck, I taught for 9 years, and at about 150 students per year, well you can do the math. Considering that most of these folks went on to graduate high school, college, are now married and have kids of their own, how do I take the chance I've forgotten a couple of names along the way?

So now on Facebook I go in and find I've been invited to take all kinds of tests, to play all kinds of games, to view all kinds of stuff, send all kinds of "gifts," and the list goes on and on. One day I had more than 150 requests to do something or another. Thankfully, I found how to refuse all of the above without having to go one at a time, and that's ok with me.

Ok, so I don't have the time for this.....why? I've found that keeping the magazine going is my shot of the real world and the cyber world both. I like doing this, love it when I'm going crazy busy. I do enjoy going to Facebook and looking at the pictures posted of people I know, or of people who know the people I know, or friends of the people I know, or friends of the friends of the people I know..... have mercy it does just go on and on.

So....if you are my friend on Facebook and you sent me an invitation of whatever sort and I didn't respond, or thank you, or do whatever was asked of me, please don't take it personally. I don't mean to be rude, I promise I don't.

Sometimes I just feel I'm up some creek without a paddle. Oh yeah, it's Facebook!
