International Horse Derby

By Jan4ever (Janice Bronstein)

                                          4/12/08

On Sunday, April 6, 2008 my scooter and I were picked up at nine,

So I could be at the very first Derby on time!

My Naples Equestrian Challenge chooses me to be an Ambassador,

One of my duties was to help sell raffle tickets, lots more and more!

The ranch was so beautiful and the day was fantastic,

I kept thinking how lucky I was to be picked!

The Equestrian riders and their horses were lined up at the gate

The Ladies and Gentlemen were driven by carts so as not to be late!

The theme for the day was Tradition, Tailgate, Top Hats and Tails.

The night before it rained so hard we thought we’d need pails!

We went into the tent area for a lunch that was divine!

Seeing the beautiful hats on the ladies was just so fine!

The food was so elegant and classy,

I was still in awe, I am such a lucky lassie!

As we watched the rider take her horse over the wall,

We watched the beautiful sight they made and knew they wouldn’t fall!

I closed my eyes and imagined it was me doing the jumping,

I had no MS at that minute and my heart was just thumping!

Then the next rider came out and went over to the fence,

The horse stopped and looked upset it was so tense!

But the Equestrian rider knew what she had to do,

She took the horse back to the fence and over he flew!

Then we took a break and had tea and sherry,

Everyone around me was oh so merry!

It was so perfect to be part of this wonderful day,

Knowing all the money they raised was going NEC’s way!

Then came the time to hand out the rewards to the winners,

The horses stood tall and proud, they sure weren’t beginners!

Then it was time for my ride to take me home,

If I had been able to walk, I would have loved to roam!

For the day I was so happy to be around the horses,

I’m sure every person wanted to ride and jump on the courses!

These past four years riding has become so important to me,

When I ride my pony Pick-A-Spot my body is free!

I’ve gained new confidence and strength,

For the NEC family I’d go the extra length!

Thank you for giving me the wonderful day,

I hope I did you proud with all I had to say!

These are the people who sponsored the first International Hunter Derby.

Thank You Kermit and Jenny Sutton

                                             April 8, 2008

Thank you for inviting me to the International Hunter Derby,

It was like you had handed me the keys to the city!

For this day I was back to my old person,

This time me riding my scooter was so much fun!

Selling the raffle tickets was such a lift,

Would have been nice to see the persons face when she got the gift!

To Kermit and Jenny Sutton your hospitality was so caring,

And, as part of the Naples Equestrian Challenge we thank you so very much for sharing!

                                           Very truly yours,

                                            Janice Bronstein
