Computer Windows Yes, But Doors? By Holly for April 2008 We all know computers have ‘windows’ but they also have even more ‘doors’. It is those doors that absolutely amaze me! We have ALL walked through them and maybe not even realized it. Musings is a great example. When you enter Musings you are going through a wonderful door. Here you find all sorts of things to help a person who has MS. You find support, information, idea’s, make new friends and can write to your hearts content AND that door is always open J As you move about the Internet one is constantly going in and out of doors. I have found SO much help on anything I am looking up that it is just mind boggling. All I have to do is type in a question to my computer and WHOA many many doors pop up for me to choose from. Then what about if I want to go an exotic island for a while…no problem….pick where and bingo doors to go through….kind of like watching a movie of where you want to be….a regular feast for ones eyes and mind. And for me SO relaxing!!!! Plus I learned a great ART / photo ‘trick’. I can screen shot where I went and then add my picture to it like I was REALLY there…VERY fun door to go through on that J I can go to Google Earth and sight see all over the globe and even go to a friend’s house. Then add in those great Web Cams for up close and to the minute shots. I love to take in my favorite places and see what is happening…..get to go the beach a lot this way LOL I love opening these doors. The list is endless on these doors for you can just go anywhere you want and yet not leave home. You don’t have to worry about the weather, no expense, anytime of the day or night and you can wear anything you want, no luggage to get lost, no traffic, no delays and the food is always like you want it. I think though the most amazing thing is the people you meet along the way and the friends you make. I have learned SO much about other people and in turn learned a lot about myself. I recently joined a site that I have had dealings with for many years. It started out as email stationary/computer learning site and was just fabulous. But now they expanded it to everything and can hardly believe the doors it has to open. There are blogs, forums, videos, music, ideas, chat rooms, specialty groups, sharing of photos, learning new things and friends to email, really something for anyone. Always too their great learning about computers….I am really awestruck!! SO this is what I mean about computer doors. So even if MS shut a lot of doors the computer opened up even more and I am beyond thankful for that!
