Suffering

By Sarkis A Slyman

Every day there is suffering all through the world. From the most basic to the most drastic one can imagine, there is suffering taking place. Many who are reading this right now are suffering in one form or another. What I wish to say is that suffering has been with man and woman ever since Adam and Eve committed the first sin.

When Jesus was on this earth it is written all over the New Testament about people he healed. Just one example of this can be found in the book of Matthew. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. NIV Matt 4:24

It is important for every Christian reading this to realize that the world had suffering before Jesus and still does to this day. It is true that Jesus is healed people but there are two things that are very important that we must remember.

First of all, Jesus did not heal every one but just those who came to him. The second thing that is extremely important is to realize the purpose of Jesus had in healing. Jesus used these immaculate situations as a way to spread the good news about heaven and all Jesus was offering to those who believed. There were no newspapers, magazines, radio or television’s. If he simply relied on word-of-mouth and did nothing but speak many would have looked at him as simply another prophet. But the miracles our Lord performed which mostly consisted of healing assured word-of-mouth would spread and spread rapidly.

It is also important for us to realize that just because Jesus healed someone of their immediate suffering or illness was not an ending for them of any other illness to come along. Not one person living during this time of our Lord being on earth is alive today. Jesus did not give them a permanent healing of anything except their immediate situation. We pray every day for a healing of either ourselves or of others. And our prayers do not fall upon deaf ears. Our Lord knows of our needs even before we do. And he will answer every one of our prayers but there will be times this answer is not necessarily the answer we were hoping for. This is where our true faith comes into being. If we get mad and allow ourselves to feel cheated we are displaying nothing more than a true lack of faith. We must place our entire faith in our Lord’s decisions. There are times when suffering is really a means God is using to use our faith as an example to others. In the book of Philippians the apostle Paul tells us that Jesus is all the strength we need. Believe this very fact with your very heart and soul. It is proper to pray for healing, for an ending of our suffering, but no matter how things turn out place your faith firmly on the fact that Jesus is all you really need.
